Herb and Clara Parry Family

Herb and Clara have 9 children that lived to adulthood, married and had children and a daughter who was stillborn. Life was hard for them, as for others who were starting their families during the depression. Dad worked in several places, at several jobs trying to find something he could do to make the money needed to care for us. Somethings worked better than others, working as a welder for Portland Cement in Salt Lake was steady and dependable, but didn't cover all the expenses. He had wanted to be a veterinarian and went to Utah Agricultural College for a couple of years to do that. But his father couldn't find a job with the depression and he couldn't pay for school. I have some letters written to him from his parents and sisters while he was at school. Some day I will have to transcribe them and put them on here. While at UAC he met Clara and they fell in love. When he left school and they married, he went to Groveland, Idaho to work for Grandpa Hale. Then he and Mom went to Tonapa, Nevada where he worked for almost a year with promises of payment - but the money never care through. While there Mom gave birth to Bert. About a month before he was born, Mom's dress caught fire from the wood stove she was using and burned most of her body. She was in the hospital about 2 months for burns and for the baby.

It is getting late, so I will write more later.
